Reading Program
The highly acclaimed phonics-first A Beka Book Reading Program leads to early
independence in reading by developing early work-analysis and comprehension skills.
By the end of the first grade, all students can read with
comprehension and writing with understanding. The wide variety of quality reading
selections stimulates your student's enjoyment of reading and appreciation of
literature. The beautiful illustrations in the Reading Program instructs, inspires
and sparks the imagination. Spelling
1st -3rd Grade A Beka Book has designed a fate-paced
comprehensive skill-teaching system that makes spelling "second nature" to young
writers. This straight forward teaches practice/test approach has two important
advantages: it is economical and it works!
4th - 5th Grade The fast-paced, comprehensive skills
teaching approach to spelling is very simple; we just give the students a carefully
selected list of spelling words each week and practice their words until they
are able to spell them correctly. Dictionary tips, and dictated sentences provide
extra reinforcement without taking much class time. 6th
Grade The sixth grader should be constantly guided to see how
grammar applies to his writing and speaking. This book gives a thorough, systematic
presentation of grammar, composition, and mechanics in a clear and appealing manner.
Of special help to the student and teacher are the explanations and demonstrations
of the writing process. Students who use this program are not "afraid of composition."
Two of the features of this language text that students and teachers appreciate
are the cumulative Looking Back sections at the end of each unit and The Student
Writer's Handbook, the writing reference section at the end of the book.
An integrated approach to Language Arts In grades
1-3, the weekly spelling lists are arranged phonetically so that students will
be able to identify the sounds they hear with the patterns they see. In grades
4 book features a phonics key for each lesson. The book for grade 5 focuses on
usage, pronunciation, and work-analysis skills. When these books are used as an
integral part of the entire A Beka Book Language Arts Program, students see how
phonics, spellings, composition, vocabulary, penmanship, reading, and grammar
go hand in hand as tools for the effective use of God's gift of language.
A variety of brief, interesting games and activities allow students to see
the works in context, practice dictionary and syllabication skills, use the works
in compositions, and increase their vocabularies as they work with rhyming words,
synonyms, homonyms, and other word groups. A continuous
vocabulary-building program Vocabulary study begins in second grade
and increases in number of words and complexity as the student mature. In grades
4, and 5, vocabulary exercises are included with each week lesson. Homework
pages Perforated Homework Pages for each list. Each book
includes carefully selected poetry for student memorization. Science/Health
A Beka Book Science and Health Program present the
universe as the direct creation of God and refute the man-made idea of evolution.
Further, the books present
God as the Great Designer and Lawgiver, without whom the evident design and laws
of nature would be inexplicable. They give students a solid foundation in all
areas of science -a foundation firmly anchored to Scriptural truth. Teaching ability
is assured through accurate, interesting writing, carefully planned demonstrations
that can be performed with a minimum of equipment, chapter terms and questions,
full color illustration, consideration of the interest and comprehension skills
of students at each grade level, and detailed curriculum/Lesson Plans.
